Bryce Canyons biology
plant life: bryce's plantlife changes considerably with elevation; higher elevation is moister than low lands and can support vegetation. The warm dry slopes beneath the canyons rim below about 7,000 ft are dominated by piñon pine, Utah Juniper, and Gambel Oak. Wildflowers put on a showy display from spring to early autumn
Animals: springs have coyotes, bobcats, gray foxes, striped skunks, badgers, porcupines, Utahs prarie dogs, yellow bellied marmots, uinta chipmunks, and golden- mantled ground squirrels. Despite the cool climate you can find a few reptiles such as the short- horned lizard, skink, and great basin rattlesnake. Birds appear in greatest numbers in May-October. Some Summer bird visitors include the golden eagle, violet-green swallows, white throated swifts, red tailed hawk, western tanager, and mountain blue bird. Year round birds include wood peckers, owls, ravens, sellers, jays, and blue grouse. Although these creatures may seem quite tame they must not be touched or held.
